Imperial Painting – Troy Grubaugh

Troy Grubaugh from Imperial Painting

Roger met Troy shortly before he started on the #50 Tempest project. After talking with him for some time, he knew Troy was a good fit for the #50 Tempest team.

Troy was involved right from the very beginning on the #50 Tempest project. Roger had purchased a bunch of “junkyard” Tempests, which he had delivered straight to Troy’s shop, Imperial Painting in Ashley, Michigan. Troy started right in and began stripping the cars, pulling the best parts he could find to use on the #50 Pontiac Tempest re-creation.

Then he started with the bodywork, restoring and in some cases fabricating entire body parts for the car. Taking the project through to paint, he made it look like a brand-new car.

Imperial Painting has been around since 2003, but Troy has been working on cars since he was 14. He has been involved with various shops that had heard of his talents, asking him if he wanted to work for them. Along the way, he learned many of the techniques he uses today through those shops. Besides flawless painting, Troy also does complete bodywork and fabrication.

We couldn’t have completed this project without all of the help Troy and Imperial Painting has provided. Since starting the #50 Tempest project, Troy has also worked on several other projects for Roger and each of them looked just as great when completed. Troy can be contacted at (810) 691-1418 or .
