After a fantastic quick build, Roger Rosebush, car owner and builder, took the 1967 Pontiac “Super Bird” Firebird 400cid to make its shining debut at the 2022 Ames Pontiac Nationals. The event was held at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio under somewhat cloudy skies. But it was not cloudy enough to dampen the spirits of those in attendance.

Roger’s 1967 Pontiac “Super Bird” Firebird, a tribute to George DeLorean, showed great for it’s special debut weekend. Its debut was overwhelmingly favorable by those in attendance. Those that viewed the car were blown away by the attention to detail included in the build. We were excited to talk with those who stopped by and explained the much-unknown history of the 1967 Firebirds, the first models in the well-known Firebird line of vehicles.

The original car was a creation of George DeLorean, owner of Leader Automotive in Troy and Royal Pontiac in Royal Oak, Michigan. Some of the top specialists were selected to work on this very special car under the guidance of Milt Schornack. Len Coviak of Detroit successfully drag raced it in the C/SA class. Len even held the Eliminator title for an amazing seven weeks straight at the track in Milan, Michigan.

Roger would like to thank everyone that has contributed to this project so far. It would not have been possible without all of them. There is still some work to do on the car and we will be keeping everyone updated on the finishing work we will be doing and any events where the car will be shown.

We will have the car out for the upcoming Woodward Dream Cruise. We will be located at the Huntington Group Oral Surgery parking lot at 43700 Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Twp, Michigan 48302. Stop by to see us there on Saturday, August 20, 2022!
